Voice of the Faithful Focus – A brief update highlighting issues and successes as we work together to Keep the Faith, Change the Church.
Archbishop Timothy Dolan was installed as the head of the Archdiocese of New York in a ceremony at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Wednesday. He was joined by prelates, clergy, and lay people including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York Governor David Paterson. In a press conference before the ceremony, Archbishop Dolan addressed the New York media to discuss many issues facing the church and suggesting that the clergy sex abuse “isn’t behind us.”

A settlement in the Archdiocese of Miami comes as a disappointment to local litigators. The suit was a second case for Kevin Sidaway of Lake Worth, Florida. Sidaway settled a clergy sexual abuse claim in 1998 but sued the church again in 2002, saying that the reforms he pressed for had not been executed. Some feel the settlement of the 2002 suit is a loss because there will be no public airing of Sidaway’s experience.
